Soldier’s Medal

Citation: Under the provisions of AR 600-45, 22 September 1943, as amended, and in accordance with authority contained in paragraph 4, Section I, Circular 2, Headquarters First U.S. Army, 4 January 1945, John V. Bressem, Jr., 39402156, Private First Class (then Private), Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry, is awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism in the vicinity of Sousse, Tunisia, 6 July 1943. With complete disregard for personal safety, Private Bressem plunged into the sea and rescued a drowning comrade. Private Bressem’s heroic action and unselfish devotion to duty won him the praise of all who witnessed his courage. Residence at enlistment: Del Pase Heights, California.

Citation: Under the provisions of AR 600-45, 22 September 1943, as amended, and in accordance with authority contained in paragraph 2, Section I, Circular 6, Headquarters Third U.S. Army, 26 April 1944, as amended, John V. Bressem, Jr., 39402156, Private First Class, Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry, is awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in Germany, 17 November 1944.
