Soldier’s Medal

Citation: Under the provisions of AR 600-45, 22 September 1944, Private George F. Hornacek, 33146116, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 16th Infantry, is awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism in the vicinity of Nicosia, Sicily, 4 August 1943. Private Hornacek proceeded to remove the flaming clothing from a fellow driver afire after his vehicle had struck an enemy mine. Despite burns on his hands and arms, Private Hornacek assisted his comrade to a place of safety. His courage and initiative exemplify the highest traditions of the armed forces. Residence at enlistment: Beaver Falls, Pa.

Bronze Star Medal

Citation: Under the provisions of AR 600-45, 22 September 1944, as amended, and in accordance with authority contained in paragraph 4, Section I, Circular 66, Headquarters First U.S. Army, 18 May 1944, George F. Hornacek, 33146116, Private, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 16th Infantry, is posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of St. Cloud, Tunisia, 9 November 1942. In the face of heavy hostile fire, Private Hornacek courageously assisted in establishment and maintenance of a road block and, at great personal risk, prevented the enemy from bringing up reinforcements. Private Hornacek’s heroic acts and unselfish devotion to duty contributed materially tho his unit’s success. Residence at enlistment: Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Next of kin: Mrs. Julia Hornacek, Mother, R.D. 1, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

Citation: Under the provisions of AR 600-45, 22 September 1944, as amended, and in accordance with authority contained in paragraph 4, Section I, Circular 2, Headquarters First U.S. Army, 4 January 1945, in addition to the Bronze Star Medal previously awarded, a bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Ousseltia Valley, Tunisia, 16 February 1943, is posthumously awarded to George F. Hornacek, 33146116, Private, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 16th Infantry. Courageously crossing densely mined terrain and risking almost certain death at the hands of numerous hostile patrols, Private Hornacek attacked and destroyed an enemy ammunition depot. His heroic action is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Service. Residence at enlistment: Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Next of kin: Mrs. Julia Hornacek, Mother, R.D. 1, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
