Distinguished Service Cross

Citation: By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W. D., 1918), the Distinguished Service Cross was awarded by the commanding general, American Expeditionary Forces, to Alfred W. Page, 42541, Private, Company D, 16th Infantry, for extraordinary heroism near Soissons, France, on July18-23, 1918. During the entire 5 days of the advance he fulfilled with exceptional efficiency the difficult and hazardous duties of liaison agent between the infantry and the tanks. Subjected throughout the action to the direct fire of the enemy machine guns and antitank artillery, he demonstrated the highest type of courage and devotion to duty. Residence at enlistment: Easthampton, Mass.
